About Michael
I want to be a part of work that is recognized and valued because it stirs emotion in people. Reacting and relying on instinct and feeling is what creates the best results. This means that collaborating with people and bouncing ideas off each other in the moment is a key component to my work as well, creating honest art and genuine collaboration.
Starting at a young age, I saw the world through the lens of a camera, everything in life was a movie and I was the filmmaker. Today, I walk through life seeing light, geometry, symmetry, genuine moments between people, balance, shapes and beauty and often times you will find me capturing them with my camera.
With a decade of filmmaking behind me, I am hungry to make better and better work.
Michael Janke is a Cinematographer based in Calgary Alberta. An associate member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers, Michael has been holding a camera since he was a kid, professionally for the last 15 years.
His Cinematography credits include a long list of documentaries, shorts, features, television series, and some of Alberta's biggest commercials for brands like Calgary Stampede, Sacori Eyewear, The Winspear Center, Bow Valley College, and award-winning promo for the Calgary Philharmonic in 2023. He has also worked as Cinematographer for multiple seasons of American true crime documentaries, “Exhumed”, “Deadly Standoffs”, and “Friends Speak”.
Feeling right at home leading 30-person technical crews, to “one-man band” productions. His dedication to his craft extends to the role of Producer as a collaborator with Director Eric Pauls, including their films “Rosebud, Alberta” and “To The Mountain”
